4.5 stars although this is the first book of this author I actually read the fated hearts series first,I am glad i read this one it was excellent. Niall did annoy me a couple of times which is why it only got 4.5 not 5 but overall i loved all the characters. The story had it all drama intrigue and twists aplenty i didn't guess all the twists which makes a change.A beautifully written book i can't wait to read the next one and am upset it took me so long to find this author.

Great read, so engrossed I read all night. Characters are also vivid - though there's not much description - it's as if your watching it play out on screen. Can't wait to read next one.

I love Scottish romance and Ceci Giltenan's book HIGHLAND SOLUTION was perfect for me. This is the first book that I read written by this author. I really enjoyed it and loved her characters Niall, a Highland laird, and Katherine, a kind and brave woman. Both had been forced to marry, but the moment he saw her, he wanted her. However, Katherine had a secret, she had been abused in the past and had become a fragile person. Niall, being an alpha male highlander did not want to be duped or deceived by any woman. But learning these facts, will he change his mind and offer her some tenderness? Will she feel protected by him? Beautiful chemistry between the two. Follow their adventure in the Highlands. I really enjoyed this Scottish romance! It is very well written and fast paced! I recommend HIGHLAND SOLUTION to all Scottish romance fans.

Forced into marriage, Lady Katherine leaves her home, and a cruel uncle, in the lowlands to go wed a Highland Laird, Niall. Niall has not had the best luck with women, and having a wife who must prove herself to his people doesn't make it easy. But as time goes on, they find they must work together to keep their clan together as betrayal knocks on their door. Niall realizes how much he loves her when he must risk all to save her and the clan.I truly enjoyed this love story of a couple who married as strangers and found a great love in the end. I can't wait to read the next story in this series. I loved this book!**I received a copy of this book for free and offered my honest opinion in the review**

I truly enjoyed some parts of this story. Katherine Ruthven was a lovely young woman whose father died when she was age 14, then was placed in the care of a cruel uncle who enjoyed causing pain to those in his care. When Katherine's uncle requests her attendance in his solar, she is stunned to learn he is giving her the option of going to a convent or marrying Laird Niall Maclan - a man she's never met. Niall's clan is seriously in need of funds and he will receive Katherine's wealth if she will accept marriage to him. Katherine would prefer a marriage of convenience than a nunnery so she accepts Niall and away they go to his home in the Highlands - Duncarra.Katherine soon learns that Niall, although kind in many ways is a despot. He demands 100% instantaneous obedience to his directives, often never giving a person the opportunity to explain their position or any extenuating circumstances. Additionally, there are some vague references to his inability to trust women because he had apparently at one time been betrayed by a woman to whom he was betrothed. This contributes to some angst within the storyline, but Katherine's sweet disposition soon warms the hearts of Niall's people, until one day Niall's hateful, shrewish, controlling stepmother returns to the Duncarra. Niall has never been accepted by his stepmother and yet, initially, he blames Katherine for of all the problems which have arisen between the two women. I hated this part. Further, it soon becomes obvious that someone is plotting to kill Niall and he very stupidly chooses to believe it is his brother, Fingal, who has shown nothing but loyalty to Niall. At this point, I'm totally frustrated by the persona of Niall. He has absolutely no judgement, even though he has some steady, wise men who continue to offer great counsel totally contrary to his own thinking. No, he would rather listen and believe the evil thoughts planted in his mind by people that hold nothing but ill will toward him.**Slightly Spoilerish**There was, however, one part I especially liked. This part is spoilerish, so don't read any further if you don't want to hear this juicy tidbit. At some point Katherine is kidnapped by a neighboring laird who is the bomb - Tadhg Matheson. Tadgh means Katherine no harm, he's just trying to get Niall to see some reason about their neighboring raids which is the result of some plotting by the villains in the story. Tadgh's book is Highland Courage (Duncurra Book 2), so I'm definitely looking forward to reading his story. He's presented in this book as a man of wisdom, courage and the ability to see past his stubborn nose, unlike Niall. In the end, although Katherine had all the qualities inherent in a great heroine, Niall was definitely lacking wisdom in many of his decisions which contributed to most of the problems in his own life and the lives of those he loved.
